Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno summoned his M2 Grand Finals MVP shape as he carried Bren Esports to a 2-0 romp against Cignal Ultra and closer to the Playoffs upper bracket in the MPL Philippines Season 7 on Saturday night, May 15.

KarlTzy displayed his fearsome form that won him the MVP award in M2 as well as in the MPL-PH Season 6, wreaking havoc with his Benedetta and Ling in the series.

With the swift sweep, the reigning world and local champion Bren moved up to No. 2 in Group A with 21 points on a 7-5 record and a head-to-head advantage over Work Auster Force (21 points).

Both Bren and Work have one series left, but the reigning Mobile Legends kings will take the upper bracket spot in case of a tie as they swept the MPL rookies twice in the Regular Season.

Coach Francis “Duckey” Glindro is elated to see his black and yellow squad peaking at the right time after struggling early in the season.

“For starters, mahaba kasi yung bakasyon namin (we had a long vacation after M2). So we were on track for some sort of burnout,” said the two-time world champion mentor.

“A few weeks right after, I think the third and fourth, parang natauhan sila na ‘di tayo ganito maglaro (they realized that we don’t play like this). And then we made sure that the burnout is already done,” he added.

KarlTzy’s Benedetta went to work in Game 1 to hit an 8-1-4 kill-death-assist record and a whopping 92 percent kill participation in Bren’s methodical 13-5 triumph in 13 minutes.

Game 1 stats

The 17-year-old SEA Games gold medalist’s perfect gameplay on Ling with 13 kills and eight assists in Game 2 powered the champs’ 24-10 victory.

Cignal had some hopes of tying the series when Arvie “Aquaboy” Antonio’s Claude got a Lord steal in the 12th minute but KarlTzy proved to be too much to handle.

Game 2 stats

Cignal ended its lackluster MPL campaign without a single win in 13 matches.
